A volunteer team is being formed to work in the Denver area to upgrade a summer school in Guéoul, Sénégal (teaching French, Math) and create two new programs (English intensive and computer skills) all using eLearning as a teaching tool. We are gathering a team of volunteers, to upgrade an educational program in Guéoul, Sénégal, using computers and eLearning techniques. All of the project development will happen in Denver (or online with our Denver staff). A second team (or perhaps members of the first team) may go to Guéoul next summer to implement it.

We are looking for volunteers who are experienced in any aspect of:

  • Use of computers and eLearning as a teaching tool
  • Teaching teachers to use the tool
  • Finding software and online resources to teach these classes
  • Working with local staff in a developing nation
  • Class scheduling
  • Creating an ESL curriculum
  • Creating a computer competency curriculum

Here is what presently exists in Guéoul

  • Two computer classrooms, top notch technical infrastructure
  • Long term competent staff
  • Aging computers, with newer or new ones coming
  • Strong support from the Gueoul community
  • The possibility of collaboration with UGB (University Gaston Berger)
  • Local teachers with beginning skills

How this fits our mission? You remember that our program started 11 years ago. Each year, we find the 12 poorest girls ready for first grade, and give these “boursières” $100 a year so long as they stay in school. As a group, they are behind their classmates academically. Six years ago, we started an after-school academic enhancement program for them. It has evolved to now beginning to use eLearning.

This new project not only benefits our boursières, but is available to all the students of Guéoul. A new branch university is being built at Guéoul. A student must have mastery level English and computer competence for university admission. This cannot be achieved in their public school.

It takes time to work up a thoughtful program like this, so it’s urgent to broadcast our talent search as widely and quickly as possible. We will arrive in Guéoul July, 2016, and want to hit the ground running.

Call us if you have any ideas to share.
Help us get the word out!
