I saw this poster on the wall of a pastor’s office when I was visiting in Gweru, Zimbabwe in June of 2019. It struck a chord with me since this sums up what Friends of Guéoul is doing hundreds of miles northwest across the African continent in Guéoul, Senegal. I am proud to be part of the effort to educate disadvantaged girls in Africa and give them options, other than marriage at a young age, for their futures.
There are so many benefits for the girls, for their community, for their country, AND for the world to have educated girls and women. This has been proven by reduced maternal and child mortality, improvement in childhood nutrition and health, lower birth rates, improvement in economic productivity and growth, and enhancement of women’s role domestically and politically.
