Between 2005 and 2024, Friends of Gueoul has supported 249 girls. Every year, new boursieres are added to our roster. In 2023, we started increasing the number of new first graders we bring on by two per year; this year we will add 16. The $100 scholarship they receive enables them to STAY IN SCHOOL. Our boursieres are chosen from the most vulnerable in the village–those who are most likely to leave school early or to not attend at all. With our encouragement, incentivizing and support, our scholars are breaking the curve statistically and staying in school! In fact, as of 2024, 17 of our scholarship recipients are now attending a university.
